Kidneys are the most important organ in regulating your blood. They filter out waste from the blood and keep you blood clean. Other than that, they also secrete important hormones that keep you healthy. Kidney failure is a serious medical condition as it is unable to properly perform its function. When waste materials accumulate in the blood, patients may face blood poisoning which could be deadly. Historically, the only option for patients with kidney failure is to undergo kidney transplant or control a strict diet. With haemodialysis, kidney failure patients are given a new lease at life.
Haemodialysis is a process which uses a machine that functions as an artificial kidney. During the process, a pump in the machine draws blood via a catheter or needle. After that, the machine has filters that are designed to filter out waste materials. After that, the cleaned blood is then cycled back in to the body. The process takes around 4 hours and patients are required to undergo treatment three times a week. This is required to avoid any build-up of waste materials in the blood.
