Introduction
The Ophthalmology Department is the department responsible for patients with eye ailments. At Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre the Ophthalmology Department consists of:

- Eye Operation Theatre
- General ward & Day Care ward (Mixed with other surgical disciplines)
- Facilities and Services
We have Ophthalmologist, Optometrists, and trained Staff Nurses to manage the services:
- General
- Vitreo Retinal Surgery
- Glaucoma Procedures – Minimal Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) / Trabeculectomy/ Glaucoma Drainage Device
- Cornea and Refractive Surgery
- Syringing
- Phacoemulsification – Intracapsular and Extracapsular Cataract Surgery
- Anterior Vitrectomy
- Intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF & Vitreous Biopsy
- Squint surgery
- Pterygium Surgery with Autograft
- Yag Laser for PCO/ PI
- Argon laser for Panretinal Photocoagulation
Specialist Clinic
- 1 Optometry Room
- 1 Eye Minor Procedure Room
- 1 Laser Room (equipped with Argon, Yag laser)
- 1 A/B – Scan Room
Operation Theatre
One theatre is dedicated to the Ophthalmology department. The theatre is equipped with 1 latest Carl Zeiss microscope and 1 phaco machine.
Services
Outpatient services:
- Minor surgery which is performed in the eye minor procedure room
- Laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy cases and cases which require laser therapy
- Optometry services such as refraction, visual field assessment, basic orthoptic assessment, and diabetic retinopathy screening
Inpatient services:
- A patient who requires inpatient treatment will be admitted to the ward
- Surgical treatment – emergency and elective, including daycare cases and inpatient cases
- Emergency services – A Medical Officer and Specialist will be available (on-call basis) every day to provide 24 hours coverage
