Clinical Laboratory & Blood Bank Services

The Medical Laboratory Department is situated on Level 2, Wing B of the Medical Centre. Equipped by professionally trained personnel and modern instrumentation, our laboratory offers a comprehensive range of laboratory tests for diagnosis, management and prevention of a wide variety of diseases.

The services provided by our laboratory include routine and specialist tests in:

  • Anatomic pathology, including both cytology and histology
  • Biochemistry
  • Blood transfusion
  • Clinical microbiology
  • Haematology
  • Immunology & Serology

Once a test has been performed in the laboratory and the completed result validated, the hard-copy results will be sent to the requesting site.

Anatomic Pathology

We provide a comprehensive service in histopathology and general cytology to hospital patients. The special tests we offer include frozen sections, Fine Needle Aspiration, Immunofluorescence, special stains and Immunohistochemistry, molecular and genetic screening services are available.

Biochemistry

The biochemistry service provides routine and specialized analysis of biochemical constituents in blood, urine or body fluids, e.g. pleural fluids testing including lipids, enzymes metabolites and drugs of abuse.

Blood Transfusion

The blood transfusion service we offer includes blood grouping, antibody screening as well as cross-matching.

Haematology

Along with Biochemistry, this laboratory provides a major input to our vital 24-hour service with blood counts and coagulation results, peripheral blood smears and bone marrow morphology. We work closely in cognizance of clinical history and diagnosis provided.

Clinical Microbiology

The scope of microbiology testing includes bacterial and fungal culture and identification as well as antibiotic susceptibility testing.

Immunology & Serology

The Immunology Laboratory is responsible for laboratory testing and clinical consultation in several broad areas including the evaluation of autoimmune disease, thyroid, cancer markers as well as having responsibility for some aspects of infectious disease serology.

The Medical Laboratory also takes part in stringent External Quality Assurance Programmes (EQA). Besides this we also run daily internal quality control panel to ensure our Lab results of quality and reliable reports.
